Compare two PDFs and see what changed
Find out what changed between two versions of a document.
Or drop a PDF here. Files stay on this device. Nothing is uploaded.
Open one PDF, choose the other, and the tool lines the pages up and shows the words that were removed and added on each page. Both files are read in your browser and neither is uploaded.
How to compare two PDFs and see what changed
- Choose the first PDF.
- Select Choose the other PDF and pick the version to compare it with.
- Read the summary and the list of pages; changed pages show the words that differ.
- Select Download report to keep the differences as a text file.
What you get
Pages are matched, not just counted
An inserted or deleted page does not throw off everything after it: the tool pairs up the pages that belong together.
Word-level differences
On a changed page the removed words are struck through and the added words underlined, so the change is clear without relying on colour.
Works with protected files
If the second PDF has a password, you are asked for it. It is used on your device only.
Nothing is modified
Comparing does not change either document.
Compare PDFs: questions and answers
What kind of changes does it find?
Changes to the text: words added, removed or replaced, and whole pages added or removed. It does not detect changes to pictures, drawings, layout or fonts.
Can it compare scanned documents?
Only if both have a text layer. Run text recognition on a scan first; recognition mistakes will show up as differences.
Does a different line break count as a change?
No. Differences in spacing alone are ignored.
Are my files uploaded to be compared?
No. Both are read inside your browser.
