Translate a PDF in your browser
Translate the text of a PDF without sending it to a translation service.
Or drop a PDF here. Files stay on this device. Nothing is uploaded.
The work is done by the translator built into your browser, which runs on your device. You see the original and the translation side by side, page by page, and can download the translation as a new PDF, as plain text or as Markdown.
How to translate a PDF in your browser
- Choose the PDF to translate.
- Check the detected language and pick the language to translate into.
- Select Translate. The first use of a language downloads its language pack to your browser.
- Compare the pages, then download the translation as a PDF, a text file or Markdown.
What you get
Translated on your device
The browser's own Translator does the work locally. The text of your document is never sent to a server.
Side by side
Each page shows the original text next to its translation so you can check names, numbers and terms.
Download as PDF, text or Markdown
Save the translated text as a new, simply laid-out PDF with a page per original page, or as a .txt or .md file.
Plain about what is needed
Where the browser has no built-in translator, the tool says so and names what is required instead of quietly using an online service.
Translate PDF: questions and answers
Which browsers can translate?
The tool uses the Translator and Language Detector APIs built into the browser. They currently ship in Chrome 138 and later on desktop computers. Other browsers are told what is missing.
Does the translated PDF keep the original layout?
No. The translation is saved as a clean text document with one page for each original page. Pictures, columns and exact positions are not reproduced.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the browser has downloaded the language pack for the pair of languages. The first translation of a new pair needs a connection for that download.
Is my document sent to a server?
No. There is no online fallback: if the browser cannot translate on the device, nothing is translated.
